Not too far away, Misty comes across the Poliwag, which takes cover behind her. Meowth manages to capture Poliwag in the basket he was using to collect the weed but is distracted by James’ relief at being able to remove his disguise, allowing the Poliwag to escape. The two are interrupted by the arrival of a Poliwag, which leaps from the pond- and reveals it has a piece of salveyo weed stuck to its tail! James attempts to capture the Poliwag with Victreebel but the little tadpole Pokémon manages to fight it off.
James and Meowth attempt to search for the weed in another nearby pond but get into an argument when James protests at wearing the peasant outfits Meowth stole for them, with Meowth insistent that raising suspicion in their Team Rocket uniform would be a poor idea. Jessie, suddenly animated, puts the boot in on James for neglecting to bring this up sooner before remembering she’s supposed to be unwell and laying back down.Įlsewhere, Misty is having no luck searching for salveyo weed at the bottom of a pond, nor has she seen any Poliwag to indicate she’s looking in the right place. James recalls breathing Stun Spore as a child and being treated with salveyo weed. Jessie, however, is insistent she’s at death’s door, though Meowth notes she brought the illness on herself by leaping through a flowery field and landing face-first in a Vileplume’s flower. Suffice to say, Meowth and James are less than impressed with Jessie. As it turns out, she only wanted an apple so she could look at something that was as red as her feverish skin. They take the apple back to another rest house where Jessie is also suffering the effects of a Stun Spore burst. They succeed but the branch they’re stood on breaks and they hit the ground hard. Pikachu offers to help but Misty tells him he’ll have to stay and keep an eye on Ash and Tracey.Įlsewhere, James and Meowth are trying their hardest to reach an apple on a tree branch. Fortunately, salveyo weed grows at the bottom of ponds wherever Vileplume can be found and, as another indicator, wild Poliwag can also be found wherever the weed grows. Tracey advises Misty consult the Pokédex and Dexter explains Stun Spore’s paralysing effects can be cured with the salveyo weed. The nearest Pokémon Center, which would have an antidote, is thirty miles away on another island, leaving Misty no real option to get her friends there. Misty manages to get her friends to a nearby rest house but the only medical supplies the group has are sticking plasters.
Ash and Tracey can barely move as a result of the Stun Spore. Pikachu rushes off to find Misty and alerts her to the trouble Ash and Tracey find themselves in (with a cute Ash impression). The two Trainers stumble into Vileplume’s flower and the startled Pokémon fires off a huge blast of Stun Spore, which the boys breathe deeply. Unfortunately, Ash trips over a rock and falls into Tracey. Tracey is getting an up-close-and-personal look at a Vileplume, which is patiently allowing him to take notes. Ash and Pikachu head inland and find Tracey, hoping for his assistance in their training. Their session is cut short, however, when an enormous wave kicks up and drenches them. Writer Yukiyoshi Ōhashi put this theory to the test by placing three members of the main cast in peril- and seeing how differently their friends behave in an attempt to help them.Īs the episode begins, Ash and Pikachu are training by the beach. But when Pokémon are as potentially dangerous as this, humans are surely just as much at risk as other Pokémon. Suffice to say Pokémon are not to be trifled with.

One curiosity of the series is that almost every Pokémon can learn the devastatingly effective poison technique Toxic. So it stands to reason, then, that Pokémon are potentially quite dangerous creatures. The effects include inflicting burns, poison, paralysis and putting the opponent’s Pokémon to sleep and, when used well, can form a crucial part of a player’s strategy and add an extra layer of complexity to battles. In the Pokémon video games, status effects can be used to devastating effect in battle, allowing a player to turn the tide of battle.
